Important FAQ'S About Burning Your Candles,
Order Processing, Shipping, and Policies
BURNING INSTRUCTION
*
Always keep wicks trimmed to 1/4" to prevent soot and smoking. If the flame starts burning to high just put out candle, let cool a few minutes, trim the wick, and then light the candle. Just be careful when you trim your wick not to cut it to short - if you do you will have trouble with it burning.
*
Keep away from children, pets and drafts.
*
Make sure your candle is always placed on a steady surface and in the appropriate holder for votives and pillars. I always place my container (jar) candles on a candle plate. If you don't have one then you can use a saucer or a coaster.
*
When burning your candle the first time, it is important to allow the candle to burn long enough so that the wax pool reaches all the way across the top of the container. The general rule of thumb is to burn a candle an hour per width of candle. With a pillar it should reach just about the edge, maybe leaving a "lip" of about 1/8 - 1/4" . This allows for a larger pool of scent and maximizes the release or the "throw" of the fragrance into the air. It also prevents tunneling.
*
Keep wax pool free of wick trimmings or other foreign matter that might present a fire hazard.
*
Do not move candle while burning or while the wax is still hot.
*
Discontinue use when 1/4" of wax remains. It will usually stop burning by then because the tab of the wick is made specially so it won't burn all the way to bottom for safety reasons.
*
Store in a cool dry place. Sunlight will fade the color of the wax.
*
Do not use if the jar is chipped, cracked or damaged in any way.
*
It is best to put your candle out with a
wick dipper**
if you have one. If not, just take an old knife and bend the burning wick down in the wax, wait couple of seconds, and then straighten it back up. If you are burning a pillar candle it is better to use a candle quencher or snuffer. If the hot wax is blown over the edge of the pillar it will usually make it "blow out the side" the next time it is burned. Also you take a chance of blowing hot wax on someone standing close, or blowing wax all over table, counter, or wherever candle is sitting.
*
Always softly cup your pillar candle with your hands when you extinguish the flame. This helps the pillar to keep its shape and burn more uniformly.
